Below is the old section, due for a clearout, but a nice
reminder whilst reading it.
2005 clips, some including onboard footage.
At Loton Park we grabbed onboard footage from Martin Elsmore,
Willem Toet, Paul Ranson, Roger and Scott Moran and more of championship leader
Martin Groves.
For the June Shelsley DVD which we managed to produce in 5 days, Paul Ranson had
worked hard and had produced a video overlay of time, speed, and revs. Even
better is that the run it is overlaid on is Martin Groves Shelsley record. As a
first attempt at the video overlay the results are most encouraging. are both on the DVD.
We are now the Shelsley record holder's record holder!
We are a bit euphoric, as no doubt Martin Groves is after
taking the hill record at Shelsley Walsh. We had an onboard camera in the car.
There were tense moments as we hurriedly made our way from bottom S to the car
of Martin Groves and Paul Ranson. Was the camera turned on, Martin said "yes", I
am still nervous as we yet have to take the camera off the car and have a look.
There have been lots of issues with doing the onboard cameras and you can never
tell until you hold that hot, warm, oily smelling camera and proceed to play
back the Shelsley Walsh new record of 23.86 seconds. It didn't take long to play
back!
A serious BIG thank you to Martin Groves and Paul Ranson.
And to all the other people adding to the varied footage. It
is an extra problem for the drivers, mechanics and teams to have to think about.
At the top level of competition from the Top 12 Run Off drivers we have been
delighted by the effort, help, assistance, advice, etc. They know the sport
needs more (spectators, sponsors, media interest) and actively work towards it.
Martin's record run will be shown on the big screen at the August Shelsley. I
have yet to really talk to anyone about it, but I will contact Shelsley this
week.
Thank you to all and not forgetting crew and friends who
helped with the DVDs.
We were onboard with Simon Durling and Willem Toet at
Gurston Down. The cameras worked just fine, capturing the awesome downhill track
being attacked by two very (very,very....very) fast cars. Martin Groves
and Paul Ranson will be running the camera at Shelsley in June as well as Willem
Toet. Roger Moran (and Scott ?) will have a camera at Loton, where we will step it up another
gear and use a third onboard set-up to get more action from the championship
leaders as well as various others throughout the season and then through to the
finale at Doune. With additional footage provided by a couple of others then
this could be a remarkable collection of footage. Now what car would the world and it's grandma like to see
onboard from at Doune? Answers not required on a postcard.
Some of the footage captured is okay, but some of it is absolutely stunning, the
Fleetwood's at Loton, A couple of Willem, Martin, and Paul's runs from Prescott,
Tim and Will Mason at Barbon is ace, Rob Turnbull's is very good but the sound
is a bit iffy. Paul Haimes and Allan Warburton's is very interesting with the
mirror image reflected in the car. Chris Merrick and Karl Davison at Barbon have
good runs but the camera sometimes appears off centre and the sound is a bit
iffy again (however if played on a big screen to a subtle tune from Motorhead
who cares).
Willem and Simon at Gurston Down, get a check up on the old ticker at the
doctors before you watch it. The DVD is now ready, filmed 28,29th May 2005
produced to DVD 3rd June. Mom would be proud.
Onboard record. Martin Groves did it for the camera!
Shelsley's latest record was caught with the onboard camera.
Roger and Scott Moran will try the onboard camera at Loton.
Martin and Paul will continue to run a camera, but maybe we will try some
different angles. Willem has his, and if I can find some of that honey rum maybe
I could sneak up on the Scotsman. (It didn't work, but after saving the weight
of the camera he got the first third in class for the Predator at Doune in
Sept).
