Electric Chair – View From Wiscombe July 2007 The annual Wiscombe Park hillclimb took place last weekend. Like at so many other events this year there were a lot of no shows. The well known faces missing, who were in the programme, were Mike and Will Hall, Tony Hunt, Ed Hollier plus Tim and Will Mason. Sadly the two litre Dallara of Paul Haimes withdrew from the Sunday event due to a very noisy engine. It was a good weekend for Simon Durling who proved that Wiscombe is one of his favourite tracks by qualifying top for both shoot outs and winning the first. Martin Groves had another up and down weekend with a joint win with Trevor Will’s V8 OMS in the second run off and only a 3rd in the first. Chris Merrick had his best weekend only narrowly missing out on his first ever British round win. Baz Pitt also had a good weekend, qualifying for the first run in a best ever second place. It was a bad weekend all round for the Moran family. Scott got a 4th and only 5th place, whilst father Roger scored a 6th and a failed run. Wedding nerves must have got the better of them. Rob Turnbull did very well even to attempt to come back after his big off last year. He qualified and scored in both run offs. Well done Rob. Mike Endean took the Puma Gould to the event this year for the first time ever and did ok. There was also no shows from Paul Ransom and Deryk and Sue Young. I heard a strong rumour that John Jones is to be driving Willem Toet’s twin turbo Pilbeam soon !! Next event Craigantlet on Sat 4th August. This will the last event until Gurston at the end of August due to the August Shelsley being rescheduled to October because of bad weather. See you all in Belfast. Bye Nick. |
