Electric Chair Shelsley Walsh 2nd & 3rd June 2007

After the disappointment of Gurston being abandoned due to the weather the June Shelsley took place in very warm sunshine on Saturday and a nice dry and quite warm day on Sunday.

Martin Groves and Scott Moran took a win each with Martin winning the first shoot out and Scott taking a good win in the afternoon.  They were both under the record in the shoot out on the resurfaced track and so was Martin’s co-driver Paul Ranson.  Scott has got a really good hill record.

Other records to go were the Ladies Record yet again beaten by the current holder Sue Young.  She became the first lady in a while to qualify for both run offs.  Well done Sue.

Gurston regular Paul Webster had an unfortunate accident in the green Dallara on his first timed run misjudging the top S and flipping the car over.  This sidelined him from the second runs.  Good to see he was ok.  He was not only one by any means to become unstuck on the resurfaced track.  The most familiar car to get  bashed up in practice was the new black Force driven by Darren Luke.  This sidelined the car from the race day and Ian Dayson will be busy trying to get the car repaired for Loton at the weekend.  One of the Ferrari Challenge cars got sidelined in practice after a big bump.  Phil Chatterton also had a big off on Sunday with his new yellow sports libre car and finally Dave Mill’s co-driver, in the ex-Coley Pilbeam, went into the hedge at Kennel Bend.  The car had a lot of damage.  Best of all the drivers all seemed to be ok.

Mike Endean had a really good weekend in his Puma Gould.  He got a new record for being the fastest closed car and best of all this was all done on his first driving visit to Shelsley.

Loton Park Clerk of the Course Jim Gazey was there with his yellow Smart car.  It was good to see it out.  Will Hall did not have a good weekend in his red Westfield, spinning the car as early as Kennel Bend on his first timed run.  He did get to the top on his second run.  Class regular Ash Mason set another class record.

It was crowded at Shelsley and there is not a lot space for my electric chair.  I am looking forward to the wide spaces at Loton.

Next event Loton Park 9th & 10th June.  See all there.

Nick
