View from Barbon The annual one day hillclimb at Barbon Manor took place in difficult conditions with not many of the championship contenders on show. It was looking to be a really good weekend for me until my chair’s lefthand motor burnt out whilst trying to go up the hill. So Dad had to push all weekend which was not easy. Thank you to the Moran family for letting us use their trailer to try and work out what was wrong with my chair and shelter from the rain. The cake that Roger had was also good. Now onto the cars. Martin Groves had an ok day with only a single win and a second. Scott Moran also had an ok day with the same scores as Martin. Chris Merrick had a good day with his best ever qualifying slot with second in the morning and followed up by a good third place finish later in the day. We thought the paddock marshal was very loud! Roger Moran did not have a very good day with only managing to get a 6th place and 4th. Trevor Willis again showed the OMS V8 can be a good car with scoring a 4th and a 6th place. Simon Durling did not have that good a day only managing two 7th places. Rob Turnbull had an up and down day in the V6 powered Gould only qualifying for one run off. He had a slight off at the top hairpin. It was a very good day for the Lindseys in their newly acquired one litre Jedi from John Watts. Hamish managed a really good first run to qualify the wee Jedi. It was good to see he got an 11th place in the run off but no points. Tim Wilson had a good day getting into one of the run offs with his bike powered OMS. Robert Kendrick had a bad weekend as the car had mechanical problems in practice which meant sadly he also missed the Harewood round. It was off to Harewood for Sunday. View from May Harewood Harewood took place in dry conditions for the morning but very damp conditions in the afternoon. Scott got the first win of the day and Martin got the second after qualifying poorly. Chris Merrick did not have a good day, failing to qualify for the first run off. Roger a 2nd and 3rd place, better than he did at Barbon the day before. John Waggitt qualified his unique green Gould GR37 for the morning shoot out and got 3 points. Trevor Willis had similar problems to those at Prescott with the car breaking on the exit of the Farmhouse. This meant no points for the day. Dave Kimberley qualified his Force for yet another run off but he again had mechanical problems which meant no points. The one thing that is not so good about Harewood is the 4 hour drive home, which was in very wet conditions. Good news on my electric chair, it went into the workshop on Monday morning and was back late afternoon with 2 new motors, 2 new rear tyres, 2 new front wheels and tyres and lots of new cables. Joystick had to be reprogrammed as well. The new motors already sound as though they won’t last very long! The last ones only lasted from January. And for other news of interest Toby Moody was racing at the weekend in the club event at Shelsley in a Marengo. He did very well winning his class. The Lindseys also were at Shelsley on Sunday but I don’t know how Hamish got on. See you all at Gurston on May 27th. Nick |
