View from Electric Chair – Prescott May 2007 We got caught out when we arrived because they had changed the start time from 10:00 to 09:30. Another weekend of smaller cars getting in the run offs. The two Forces of Dave Kimberley
and Robert Kenrick
doing well qualifying for both run offs and picking up a few points. Martin Groves was back to winning ways, clinching both wins after he was forced to sit out Loton Park because of mechanical problems. Scott Moran only had an ok weekend with going quickest in practice but on race day he had a spin in the esses in the first qualifying run. This meant he got no points in the morning run off but he managed to get a good second behind Martin in the afternoon shoot out. Rob Turnbull made a welcome return to the hills with the V6 powered Gould after his big off at Wiscombe in July. He got a good 6th place in opening round of the day, but didn’t quite make the cut for the second round. Sue and Deryk Young were back on the hills. Sue had a steady first outing at Prescott with the Gould Judd. Deryk got a really good 2nd fastest qualifying time in the afternoon as well as bagging a 3rd and a 4th. John Waggitt was out again in the green GR37 and he got into his first run off this season. He has even got a green chock to match the car! Trevor Willis did not have a good weekend because he had mechanical problems in the morning run off that sidelined the car for the day. Sandra Tomlin had an off in the blue Pilbeam MP72 in the afternoon, which prevented Oliver from running. Hope Sandra is ok. Paul Haimes also did not have a very good weekend with failing to make the cut in the morning and then sliding down the bank at semi-circle in the afternoon run. There was no sign of Jos Goodyear’s new Pilbeam or Bob Penrose’s OMS V8, which has got old engine from the Roman and also no sign of Graeme Wight Jnr. Tom New had another disappointing weekend and did not qualify for either run off. Tony Hunt was back out after his crash at Loton and he did well. He also shared it with Bill Chaplin. Mike Endean was out with the Puma but Mike Sidgewick in the Pilbeam MP92 beat him. Mike is going to take the Puma to Gurston and then Shelsley Walsh. It will be his first of racing the Puma at Shelsley. Roger Moran’s mechanic, Dave Wilson was there with his unique pink Caterham. He spun it in the afternoon. See you at Barbon. Nick |
