Hiya Willem.

We have just got back from replacing cones at Craigantlet.

This year my performance was much better and I also did the marker
tape, turned the white side of the tires around and also the stringy
orange plastic barrier stuff. And many times!

No one does a cone like you though!

We are all missing you, the community is great. See the Swan in Martins
car in this weeks pictures when they are posted.

A Lancia Fulvia (1600cc 2 door road car) came 12th in the second run
off.

We travelled Over with Paul and the Groves car. Still had to hunt for
the ferry on the way back and no GB number plates to follow.

No grinning person in a Force wagon either.

Scottie won 1. Martin round 2.
Paul (41s) out qualified Martin.....

Regards to you and Sue and Switzerland. Which according to a recent
survey is a much better place to live then England !!

:-)

Hi Richard and Georgia

Thanks for the update. I'm missing everyone as well and the Force boys,
despite (correctly) being worried last year that they were attending too
much to me and not enough to their own customers are struggling with lack of
excitement this year. Hopefully things will be back to "normal" for a while
soon.

We're now close to having another look at things. Neil has been flat out
working on the engine between his other work. He's developed it now using
the dynamic testing capability of his new dyno. An anti lag system has been
added which should work better than others we've tried and boost control has
been actually made to work. Top end power is probably down a bit but
control should be much better. We'll still have over 800 available if we
want it and can put the power down. Interesting and truly joyful to see
that Simon Durling has now (and not before time given his ability) won not
only one but two runoffs outright. A clearer demonstration of the benefits
and importance of control over power is hard to imagine (since he has less
power than all the other cars with a serious chance).

Anyway here's the present plan. If terrorism and flight delays allow I do
a short test on Tuesday to see if the engine is now controllable. If we
feel that it is either controllable or we have a chance of getting it under
control with very minor tweaks then I'll run at Shelsley, Gurston and
Prescott. Prescott will be a big test for controllability. If Prescott
goes OK then Doune is also possible. At this stage it is still difficult
to take time out of work so Doune and even Prescott are dependant also on
how things go there.

Life here is busy but fun. I've taken to riding the down hill bike up
hill!! I love the downhill on any of my bikes, but when it is wet the
downhiller is much better for grip over wet and very slippery roots and
rocks! The problem is the thing is a soft as a blancmange, weighs nearly 20
kilograms and has a high friction chain block to stop the chain coming off
over massive bumps and jumps. This adds up to a mega workout every time I
take it out - which is good for the heart so long as you don't do it every
day! Work is also a good challenge but I couldn't possibly give details.

All the best and I hope to see you (next) at Shelsley.

Update Weds 16th August

Hi Richard and Georgia

Unfortunately our test failed and we have an engine-related problem which
may have caused damage to the engine. We now need to look inside and see
what the damage is. This means I won't be driving (at least not in my car!)
at Shelsley or Gurston. At present I don't see any viable alternatives.

What with that and the fun with the extra security at Heathrow and related
delays – I didn’t have a fun day yesterday!

All the best.

Willem

xx
