Moose Mail - Shelsley news Friday prep
Fly over 1st thing Friday morning and for first time this season not a great deal of prep required so repay the favour back to big paws and help in the workshop doing some mechanics for him just for a change. Collect Gina from airport at 5 o’clock, Muppet travels up with the newbies. big paws phones us about 6 to say m4 is shut so we take a detour and arrive about 7.45pm opt not to unload ,but walk the hill and also take in a a glass of wine at the Durlings new gaff at the top of shelsley. Very nice it is a fantastic setting and what a lovely drive (no wonder he went well this weekend all that free practice, don’t know if the Gould will like the cattle grids though or will the cattle like carbon a bit partial to steel we here though !! We have a leisurely evening socialising a great way to unwind, and then unload in prep for sat. Sat practice Nice to have a lay in and a leisurely start as we opt not to run till after lunch just to give moose a chance to finally sort body work and show g the ropes, and methods etc 1st practice after watching a couple of batches with big paws, we see jam strangler setting the the pace with a mid 25 sec run. moose is prep and ready to go after posting the best split so far that day, into bottom ess a little over eager a harmless spin (thank god ,could have been some much worse) the track in places so slippery with dirt, dust impregnated into tarmac. 2nd practice moose posts a 26.49 a very cautious approach to bottom esse 3rd practice late on We are lucky and take the chance of a late 3rd run moose is eager to redeem and post a 25 sec run, by skin of our teeth post a 25.99.we clear up and get washed and changed to go to new inn for a barmeal (nothing to do with the newbies). With mcb666 and wife tag along calvin, muppet, g string, moose and all the newbies, we take of couple trips in mcb’s trusty stead and settle down for some well earn't food, 1hr later we are still waiting for it to arrive not the swiftest service but it was hot and edible . All sounds too good to be true for the moose crew after previous meeting woes, but due to work pressures etc moose has failed to get race fuel delivered to big paws and because of detour we hadn’t passed a shell garage to get some optimax fuel, so really just wanting to get some sleep a 2hr hunt for fuel was needed didn't get to kip before 12. but the pace is quite relaxed in the morning so no dramas.
Mark arrives and by about 9.30 all the moose crew are in the pit with there orange race shirts, they refuse to pose for a team photo. I think ,will save that for our first win celebration, just hope everyone's there that day is coming just don’t know where or when (any one got a crystal ball ) 1st timed we post a 25.16 and qualify 5th Run off we are in the 24’s with a 24.63 and finish 3rd behind jam strangler and grovesy 1st mission accomplished just need a repeat performance for the after noon. Moose is taking a slightly different approach and trying to bag as many points as poss and not going balls out and ending up with none. We have lunch and its so hot and humid, sweating with next to nothing on let alone getting into race gear., the fumes just linger in the garages at shelsley (sure it cant be healthy, what would they say at the lawns will would all be in gas masks. still it is always a fair size crowd, and such a great place to compete that we would not have it any other way, well maybe bigger garages and some electricity would be great 2nd timed We post a 25.07 and qualify 4th and finish 4th in class PR grovesys shared driver post as a 24 and sneaks 3rd place in class. Run off We go back to a previous set up and post a conservative 24.79 okay but a little too cautious, PR has posted a new pb for him with a mid 24 ,so we are lying 2nd with jam strangler and grovesy left to run. Jam stranglers posts a massive 0.86 improvement on his pb and posts a 23.97 how did he fluke that ? With grovesy waiting on the line he would have to dig deep and as usual he does and 23.81 and ten more points.
With having almost the entire contents of the lorry in the pit and trying to get the car and truck back to pits it always takes a age to pack up and we are as usual one of the last to pack up.it’s a long hot tiring trip back to the newbies but we are happy ish with 15 pts from the weekend With no rest for the weekend next meeting is loton park next week And some demons to put to bed there !!!! This track is moran country and we will endeavor to stick to their preverbal tails. With mark still building and not making an appearance till rounds 21 and 22 in my back yard g string will have a hard act to follow, along with tea lady in keeping moose season on track. We are slowing eating into the durling lead in 4th spot, who in turn is eating in 3rd roger morans tally, so its still open but cant help think groves still calling the shots, but he is having to work for it. !!!!!!!! |
