Moose Mail
As all are prep is done at meetings I was eager to completely strip off suspension etc and give a through clean and check over, including check gears etc clutch etc. approx 26 hrs of prep before loading up in trailer to go Bouley Bay in Jersey. Special thanx to Charlie smith for loan of trailer and max headroom for van loan. We go to jersey on Tuesday afternoon slow boat ( I only finished fitting tow bar and wiring on Tuesday lunchtime ) The reason for a trailer this year is to enable us to get back with the car on Thursday night normally truck does not get into gsy on slow boat till Friday pm and all night spent at garage. This year I wanted to relax a little more. We arrive that’s me and g string on Tuesday to Jersey on slow boat, big paws, Grovesy, and Ranson, Tom's mum and dad, and last but not least dunncell and wife (duncell is a keen ornithologist [big word, spelt correctly] , more later ). We check into hotel at top of hill and a quick drink at black dog before settling in for a good nights sleep. Wednesday is spent relaxing by pool at hotel a great way to unwind slight sunburn of left foot but as jnr would say na too bad There is a welcoming van don honour at the waters edge hotel by the jersey club a chance to catch up with everybody. We have booked a bar meal in black dog company good ,food crap that will be last time we eat there. Thursday race day up at 5.30 am this is a major long day for a meeting that does not start till 10 am but for those that have experienced the jersey pits you will now why the early rise. Although the two jersey pit marshals are worthy of special mention for there organisational skills well done ladies !!!!!! Team moose opted to save some tyres for gsy so we only took a practice set and runoff set so that’s why the big difference to time runs and run offs times. Unusual for me I haven’t written times down yet so from memory is as follows 1st practice is a l
2nd practice a mid 40 sec run 1st timed run we qualify 6th with a low 40 .37 Run off 39.09 with a almighty slide through Sleaman's corner I was lucky to hold on to we finsh 5th with rob 4th on 39.05,3rd is jam strangler on 38.99 Grovesy 2nd on 38.93 and Simon Durling with his first ever run off win on 38.71 a great achievement I am chuffed for him as I have driven this car and predicted a win for him in Jersey great for the perfect gent of our sport just a win now for me and I will be truly elated. We decided to keep the best tyres for run offs and give ground to the others in timed runs to enable the best possible chance in the run off my aim was to get into the 38’s and close to AP ’s record so I am hopeful for 2nd run off 2nd time run we qualify 6th again with 40.73 Run off 39.14 my previous pb’s from last year was 39.15 so all in all I did manage 2 new pb’s so I am pleased about that and cars is ready for gsy round sorry forget to mention I finished 3rd And Scott 2nd and Grovesy sets and new track record 38.47 fair play And dunncell now knows the difference between geese and swans ask me at next meeting and I will explain... Points tally for Jersey 14pts, I am trying but I can't find the groove of last year I will carry on looking.
Thank you for the army of supporters in Jersey routing for team moose. It is appreciated. Mike. [Okay I added the full stops - Richard, no swaning around here!]
Thanks to Eddie Walder for all of the pictures.
