Electric chair 9

View from the Electric Chair Shelsley August 2006

I had a good holiday.  It was very hot, deep in the countryside near Granada in Spain.  Whilst I was away Martin and Scott both shared the wins at the Craigantlet round.  The Masons had another up and down weekend at Ireland with doing the sprint on Friday along with the hillclimb on Saturday which they both qualified the car for the morning shot out but a mechanical problem sidelined the car from the afternoon.  It was very good to see that Tim finally managed to beat Wills to a point.  It was another very unusual set of run offs in Ireland because of so few British Championship contenders so that meant that Micheal Beattie from Ireland qualified his Lancia Fulvia for a run off.  I liked the swan driving the Groves car, nice one Mike and Tom.  Does Richard actually know it was a swan or does he think it was a goose?

Came back early from Spain so that meant I was able to be at Shelsley at the weekend where it was a very good weekend for Martin taking both wins under pressure from championship rival Scott Moran.  I have a new for Roger which is “Daddy the Tyre Warmer!!”  It was really good weekend also for Grovsies co-driver Paul Ransom for scoring highly in the second run off.  It was a bad weekend for the Mason boys again with not qualifying the car at all in the morning and in the afternoon the crown wheel and pinion went bang on Wills’s run, that sounds expensive.

Well done to Sue Young for once again breaking the ladies hill record in the ex-Wight Jnr. Gould.  She is now almost going as quick as Graeme did when he raced it with the V6.  Deryk also had a good weekend with qualifying the car for both run offs.

It was a bad weekend for the Scottish guys in their Mallock when George Emmerson had a big bump which could sideline the car for the rest of the season.  There was also a another bump for Dave Jones’s TVR into the barrier at bottom S. There was another big off in the afternoon by local man Phil Nuttall who came unstuck going round Kennel which delayed the racing by about an hour.  Hope he is ok and enjoyed his helicopter trip.

I think Malcolm Wishart has sold the ex-Turnbull Gould at last but who to??  It’s looking very unlikely that Willem Toet will be back out this season with the turbo charged Pilbeam because it broke in testing.  It was another strong weekend for the other turbo charged Pilbeam of Jos Goodyear when he qualifying it both times making very loud bangs.  Must have had it lagged right up.

Jim Gazey once again made an appearance in his unique Smart car.  He must be mad if he thinks that is a good car to race.

Should be another good weekend of hillclimbing this weekend at Gurston Down near Salisbury.

Nick.
