After a washout practice on Saturday it was a nice warm day for the main event on Sunday at which Martin Groves finally wrapped up his second title in a row, although he did not win a run off on Sunday.

John Waggitt had his first national outing in the soon to be green ex-Turnbull/Wishart Gould, which he had a strong weekend in when he qualified the car for the morning shoot out and just missed the second one.  It was a weekend with plenty of no shows including as expected Willem Toet.   Jos Goodyear also didn’t race because the car could not be repaired in time after it broke at Gurston.  Tim and Will Mason were not racing but it was nice to see them as spectators on Sunday.  Tony Wiltshire was entered but after an off in practice on Saturday this meant sadly for the Gurston regular that the car was sidelined for the racing.

Sunday was a day that had a lot of incidents but the most weird one was when Lynne Owen and Dick Foden both had bumps when they were on the hill at the same time.  There was also a rare appearance from ex- British Champion David Grace who had a guest drive in Allan Warburton’s new Caterham Seven, in which he had a solid run in the morning but unfortunately had a spin in the afternoon.

Roger’s Moran’s mechanic Dave Wilson and his co-driver Joy Hoyle both had a spin in the afternoon runs.  Will Hall also had a big spin at Orchard in the wet practice session on Saturday.

Paul Webster, Paul Haimes and Piers Thynne were all there in their new 2 litre Dallaras, which all look very nice but unfortunately for Paul he was denied an afternoon run after a problem.  Hopefully it will be repaired in time for the Gurston club event this weekend.  Toby Moody once again had a guest drive in Bill Chaplin’s orange Force and he had another good weekend.  This will be the last time you see Toby this season as he is now on a three week trip  abroad with the MotoGP.

Next event that we will be doing is probably the Gurston club event on Sunday.  Unfortunately we won’t be able to get to Doune yet again because of other commitments at home and my College starts again on Thursday morning of next week, but I go back on Wednesday evening.  I am also 19 on the 19th of September so think of me then.  Happy birthday to Tim Mason for the 18th.

If you are going to the Gurston club event this weekend hope to see you there and if not have a good winter and a happy Christmas.
